| Re: Backspin And a super firm strike - generating a ton of spin. |

| Re: Backspin You have to realize the grooves on those wedges aren't what the average players going to find either. The golf channel talked about it a bit after it happened. Sounded like it was a lob wedge that he de-lofted and accelerated through the ball. Nike's wedges may not be any better than any other pro-style wedge, but they're designed for pro-style. Most amateurs wouldn't be able to control the spin like that and would be worse off with that club. |

| Re: Backspin I had plenty of time to kill last night, so I went to a practice green and just for giggles I spent about 45 minutes trying to generate any kind of spin from my ball. I was using a 56 degree vokey wedge and Slazenger 420 balata balls. Needless to say, I had absolutely no luck in trying to spin the ball backwards towards the holes. I nearly lost one ball when I miss hit it and sent it into the woods. Luckily, nobody got killed. I believe I was the only person on the course, otherwise I would've saved myself the embarrassment. I enjoyed trying it because I tried a little bit of everything, and I got a good idea of what happens to the ball when I put the clubface on it from all different angles and speeds. Then, when I finally got bored with it, I realized the greens were damp from the very slight rain that was falling. I guess I was having so much fun I never realized how much rain was coming down on the green. As if the lack of rain would have mattered anyway......but I'm a hack, so I try not to think about that........! |

| Re: Backspin like what was said before, unless you have a good, consistent swing and are a low handicapper, you have no reason to try to put spin on the ball. sure, it would impress everyone and all that, but i mean, if you cant fire at a pin in the first place, theres no reason to try to spin it. oh yeah, and if you are that low handicapper, the main key for backspin is to keep those groves as clean as possible. if you have some caked dirt on the clubface or grass in your grooves, it aint spinnin. | Re: Backspin I kind of disagree. What's wrong with amateurs trying to try a shot? After all, it's suppose to be a game. There are two types of golfers, one looking for a low score and another looking for something interesting to talk about on the 19th hole. |

| Re: Backspin i must agree with cant put, you might not have to get the ball to spin back two foot but you need backspin on the ball to stop it on the hard greens, it might land and go foward a few feet but its better than bouncing to the back of the green and over, by the way a usual get about 1 foot backspin from a pw at 130 yards but hitting green side shots i got no chance, but a do get enough to slow the ball on impacked with the green |

| Re: Backspin For the record, grooves don't add or remove spin. Grooves help channel energy-draining material away from the ball and clubface. Also, every time you hit the ball, it spins. As for generating backspin, you need to make clean contact with the ball. The loft of the club and the 'cleanliness' of the contact are what generate spin - this whole 'pinching the ball between the club and the turf' thing. |

| I myself is 17 and i play off 9. you need to make sure the following things are done to make sure that backspin occurs:
thats how you get backspin. just make sure that these factors are done and you will. happy golfing every1
