| cocking the wrists When do you cock your wrists to start the swing? If its the case for the flop and the sand shot, how would you take it back? Do you cock your wrists to start the swing, or do you take the club back low and slow and naturally cock it? |

| Re: cocking the wrists Careful with an early wrist cock especially when its a less than perfect lie. Its very easy to uncock them early as well and thats when all sorts of nasty things happen. Ian suggests a quiet body with it and he's quite right. Practice this a lot first though because you need to know the feel pretty well before you use it in play. The habit of the correct body motion is a hard thing to throw away just for one or two shots a round. If you have lots of practice its easier to feel the shot when you need it. As for the length of swing for the flop and the sand shot, I can only help you with the sand shot since I dont have a lob wedge and never play flop shots (links golf.......not much call for it). I use the same length of swing for every sand shot around the green. If I want to hit it further I either hit it harder or vary the amount of sand I take. This is not the best way to play it, mind you. I think most people have better luck varying the length of the swing. Try both methods and see which one you get the best feel with. D.

| Re: cocking the wrists I don't do flop shots unless I'm in the greenside bunker. I use my normal full swing but have an open stance. this makes that ball fly higher. the higher I need the ball to go the more I open my clubface and the more open I leave my stance. I also make sure that the ball if foward in my stance as I want to strike the sand before the ball. the longer I need the ball to fly the further back in my stance I have the ball. |
