| Re: High Lob - Help ! From your description, I get the feeling that you hit the flop shot out of the fluffy stuff where it's easy to slide the club under the ball so you're not really hitting down on it.
It does become a more difficult shot to play off shorter and harder ground but not impossible if your lob wedge doesn't have too much bounce on it.
Firstly address the ball with it right on the back foot and open the stance wide. Press the hands forward and punch down, through and finishing low. You should find that you can hit the ball quite hard but it will still pop up, land short and bite hard. It's a bit of an unusual technique but if you "chicken wing" the shot and use the left hand more it's amazing how much spin you can generate. You need to compensate for the swing plane and open clubface by aiming way left of the target.
It takes some practice but it's a great feeling when you can show that shot off to your playing partners. |
