Correcting the shanks?

I need help / instruction on getting rid of the shanks, when I am short chipping / lobbing.

Re: Correcting the shanks?

First of all, leave the cut lobs at home. Make sure that your clubface is square to your target at all times.

Next step - make sure your hands stay in front of the club. A lot of times the clubface beats the hands to the ball, and the result is less-than-pretty. Trust your club to do the work.

Lastly, do NOT decelerate. If your backswing is too big, stop, and start over. Don't decelerate into the ball. The backswing is too short, and the clubhead zooms ahead of your hands.

Re: Correcting the shanks?

Just to add a couple of points to what LP mentioned.

1) Don't crowd the ball, it's easy to stand too close with these clubs which only promotes the possibility of a sh**k
2) Make sure you still use a good shoulder turn, again it's easy to get "handsy" on the shot
