Putting stance

i've always felt i was an average putter being a low handicap but averaging 31-32 putts a round, not 3 putting much, just not 1-putting very often.

So over the winter i've been working on it lots on a straight putt to get the mechanics correct. I was standing very upright all winter and found i pull and push putts. Then I looked in the mirror and noticed i am putting by rotating round my spine (closing my shoulders then going to open). Is this what Pelz calls the door effect or something?

2 days ago I starting bending by the waste a lot more so im at about 45 degrees over. I feel the club head is going back and through on a much straighter line naturally (it sound link the 'Pills'? stroke pelz talks about). Will bending over more enable me to just rock my shoulders through and back or should i continue to stand tall?

Just want to know before I engrain it into my game,
Thanks Rich

Re: Putting stance

I've made exactly the same change and have felt a huge difference. My stroke is a lot smoother, straighter and overall a lot more reliable. I reckon I've cut my number of putts per round by about 5.

Re: Putting stance

I would suggest standing so that your eye closest to the target (left eye for righties) is directly over the ball. This enables you to see directly down your target line. To check, in your putting stance, simply place a golf ball to your eye and drop the ball. If you are directly over your bal at alignment, the ball you drop from your eye should land directly on top of the ball you have aligned to.

Also, bending over does make it easier to rock your shoulders. If you stand straight up, you will see it is impossible to move them at all without twisting your torso.

Re: Putting stance

Padrig has an extremely wide stance. I'm thinking of trying that.
