Pitching with "open" club face" Something has crept into my short game which is annoying because I can't seem to find out why. Whether it's a distance wedge shot or a shorter (50-60 yards)ones, the ball would slice to the right. My caddy would say that I hit with an open face! I dispute this of course! I know it is something to do with not squaring the clubface but I'm not sure how to fix it. I've gone as to closing the clubface coming onto the ball but of course the ball would go left (I'm right-handed). Grateful with any suggestions.

Re: Pitching with "open" club face" Get your hips around. Let you hands and arms hang back a little. Feel a late release, and reduce any excessive grip pressure....just relax. Be easy in the tempo...no need to hurry a 50 hard wedge. It's all about pureity of contact.

Re: Pitching with "open" club face" Thanks Greg. I don't know what you mean by 'getting your hips around'. I have been thinking about my body (particularly hips) outracing my arms and hand and that is probably why the face is still open when it comes into contact with the ball. Your reply suggests otherwise, I think. Are you suggesting that my hips turn ahead while I hold my arms and hands back? I thought the turning of the hips and the coming down of the hands should occur at the same time? Grateful if you would clarify, please.

Re: Pitching with "open" club face" Hips should be ahead of the arms and hands slightly. And that closes the face more then the hands do trying to close them down around the ball. If you are late in your timming of the hands in any way, you get very irratic results..hooks one swing, slices the other. So you need to get the body in control more.
