flop shots

ok i practice these as often as i can and always aim laft of the target, however pretty much evry hot manages to go straight where im aiming but still higher, if not it only goes a little bit right. its done that ever since i started playing the shot. All apart from yesturdays round where i played a flp shot out of the bunker which came off the face perfectly and cam eoff the the size and roled into the pin with a little too much pace to drop . I was just wandering what i might have done differently to get it to go to the right of where im aiming by such a great amount like every one else seems to do. I mean it span so much more too if that gives anything away.

Re: flop shots

are you opening your club face, you need to aim club face a little to the right of target swing along foot line with open stance with a good agressive swing

You should be opening the club face and aiming your feet left of target, the leading edge of your wedge will be pointing towards the pin. Hit the ball in the direction of your feet (left of target) and the ball should travel right of this or towards the pin. keep the leading edge of the club pointing upwards in the follow through (no rotation of the wrists).

Good Luck
Brian

Re: flop shots

Just a question on my part for the rest of the forum on Mr. Turner's post. Is it possible that there might be a club lie angle issue involved here?
Just courios. GJS

Re: flop shots

I have tried a couple of flop shots on the course lately, mainly to get over bunkers next to the green. I just opened the clubface up the same as you would for a sand shot and swung the club underneath the ball. ( Got to be a nice fluffy lie) The ball has just popped up and landed softly on the green with minimum roll. Only problem I have had with it is judging the amount of strength to put into the shot. I would just add that the lie has to be nice and fluffy, if its a tight lie the tendency is to thin the shot 50yds through the green

Re: flop shots

I just play the club wide open and take a good rip at it.

Re: flop shots

Cheers Tiger . I try not to think about the bunker if I'm in this situation , but its always there at the back of my mind. I should really spend a few hours on the practice area trying different strengths till I'm confident about distances. Having said that I only end up in these situations about once or twice a month.

Re: flop shots

you need soft arms and hands for these shots, hands must lead clubhead.
