Which Lob Wedge ?

Hi,
I need to buy a new lob wedge.
Looking for versatility from 30yds and in but especially HIGH SPIN.
Which is the best type ?
Mike, cleveland, Vokey ???
Any advise would be useful....and cheapest outlet in UK.

You can always use something like price runner to find the cheapest price on the net just make sure the shop has reviews from people who have already bought there. Otherwise steer clear.

30 yards is never a full swing but you will probable be looking at 64 degree wedge

The advice i have always receaved and has payed off every time is:
try,try and then try again
Until you find something that works for you. As what works for one person may not work for you.

The golf magazines often run wedge comparisons and the ones the seem to always do well are the ones that you would expect to: Cleveland, Callaway, Mizuno, Titleist and Nike, but there are other "non-premium brands" that are very good but maybe not so sexy, such as SkyMax or Progen.

As fahie mentioned, which one is best for you is really determined by personal preference. I prefer Titleist Vokey wedges (I have 52/56/60) but one of my friends prefers Clevelands, the difference is not that one is better than the other but that the Clevelands feel fuzzy to me and the Vokeys feel harsh to him.

All of them will give you great amounts of spin, providing you are using the correct type of ball. Hitting a distance ball with a wedge is like hitting a marble! The hard ball shoots up really high as it slides off the club face but won't have much spin on it. A softer ball ( Titleist ProV1 or Callaway Tour 56) will come off a fraction lower but will a lot more spin so that when it lands, it will "drop and stop" and if conditions are right, spin back at you.

Fahie also mentioned buying a 64 degree "High-Lob" wedge. It's purely personal preference but I've never got on with them. If I want a higher shot I can open the face of my 60. I would much rather do that then try to close the face of a 64 to play a 60 degree type shot.

One thing I would be specific about is the amount of bounce you want. If you play on harder ground, you want a smaller amout of bounce and if you play on courses with softer courses you want a bit more bounce to prevent digging in. If you don't get this right you can up up with a lot of fat and thin shots if your swing isn't as consistant as it might be!

As for the cheapest outlet, I seem to find the best prices at one of four places: American Golf, County Golf, Golf Direct and Bill Woodsmans Golf. A quick google will help you find them.
