using putter for fringe?

again from golf channel!

the guy used a putter when the ball was in the fringe, with the ball having fair bit of grass round contact area.

what he did was put the hands forward in the stance and pressing down towards the ball, allowing the ball to pop forward over the fringe and roll out onto the green towards the hole

has anyone out there used this with any success?

Re: using putter for fringe?

Sounds like the Dave Pelz 'chiputt' to me. I regularly use the putter from the fringe this way.

Also sounds like a shot called the TEXAS WEDGE made famous by Ben Hogan , where you use the putter to trap the ball between it and the ground , causing the ball to pop up and then run to the flag.
cheers
