Gir

Hi Folks

Please Please Please tell me how I can hit more GIR (Greens in regulation) as this is a particular part of my game which struggles, I normall hit a 5 wood of the tee as I know that I normally will hit the fairway or very worst just off it, and it goes around 200 yards

opinions welcome

Thanks

Re: Gir

Well your going to get good constant strikes with your long and medium irons so your reach the greens in regulation. Also you may want to find out how long you carry each of your irons so your distance control is better, then it is only a case of accuracy, which you probably have seeing as though you hit most fairways.

Learn how to hit your 4 or 5 iron really well or buy a hybrid. Practice your short game till your hands bleed. That way you will either get GIR or be close and able to chip or pitch up to the hole for an easy par.

Re: Gir

1. Take an extra club and swing smoothly every time.

2. Dont go for any sucker pin placements.

Re: Gir

Hi Widdow: First Why 5 Wood Of The Tee?
Try You Driver.
Second To Aproach Better Gir You Need To Know The Distance Of All You Clubs In You Bag Then Make You Number Base On "how Far Did I Hit My Driver, How Far To The Green, Do I Have A Club In My Bag To Reach That Distance? Now It Is Safe To Use ? Bunkers, Water Hazard... Should I Lay Up ?...if You Ask This Few Question Like Routine Before Pick A Club From You Bag I Think You Will Be On You Way To Reach More Gir!! Cheers

It must take you ages to type, having to capitalise the first letter of every word. Why bother? It doesn't make it any easier to read, in fact it makes it harder to read.

Re: Gir

I have to agree with B11's post. I would at the very least, move up to a 3 wood. 200 yard accurate tee shots are fine, but on longer par 4s, you are leaving yourself too long of a second shot into the green. Can you hit your 5w off the the turf 200 yards also?

A 210+ par 3 would present the same problem since you can't reach the green in regulation. Par 5s should not present an issue for you.

You need to get longer off the tee, leaving yourself with 2nd shot distances into the green that you can handle with other clubs in your bag.

If you can't get the distance off the tee you need to reach the geen on your second shot, then a better than average short game is your only answer to scoring well. Quite a few older golfers I know who do not have the distance off the tee anymore score quite well due to their stellar short games. GJS

Hi Widow,

Try to think of your driver as if it had a Number 7 stamped on it. Swing it at the same speed as your 7 iron and use the same swing (Don't try to hit harder), just keep the ball teed up higher, keep it a little inside your left heel, widen your stance and lean your sternum a little behind the ball.

Don't try for distance, think of hitting 180 yards with a smooooooth tempo and a clean release through the ball.

You may be pleased with the results.

Re: Gir

Take your driver and swing easy. Being 40 yards nearer the green willmean you're taking 7-irons instead of 3 and 4-irons. Yeah you may hit a few a bit wonky, but overall your gir ratio WILL improve.

If you're on this planet to improve yourself as a golfer/human being then you would find it useful not to be so nowty. A thank you and a sorry would have been a better response.
