| Hitting fat shots off i pw through 3 iron Guys I have a nasty habit of taking a deeper divot than I am suppose to when I am hitting my irons and sometimes my woods? Would just a steep cause this? I could be possibly diving in toward the ball to I guess at impact. I would love to be able to hit the ball solidly instead of hitting earth before the ball. I could probably realistically pick up another 50-100 yards more to every shot if I wouldn't hit the ball so fat. HELP! Any really good drills for this problem? |

| Re: Hitting fat shots off i pw through 3 iron There are several reason for hitting it fat. First, you could be throwing the club at the ball. This means, when you have completed your backswing, instead of starting down with your lowerbody, you throw the club with your hands . The right wrist collapses (bends) and your left wrist is pronating. You want your right wrist to pronate, and your left to supinate. Second, you could not be transferring your weight properly. If your weight stays on the right foot (RH Golfer) the left wrist collapses(same as above) and the right wrist breaks down. Third, your upper body is starting the downswing. When this happens, your right shoulder is thrown away(over the top) from the body and creates a steep angle of attack. Typical shots that result from this are shanks, toed mishits, and fat shots.
