Re: Weak grip on chips? I use my standard neutral grip when pitching as it should be a shortened version of the full swing and incorporate a wrist cock and release.. When chipping I weaken my grip slightly as I like the back of my left hand to face the target, I concentrate on keeping it pointing at the target as long as possible through the shot, just like putting.

Re: Weak grip on chips? When I chip, I mostly use a hybrid and I chip exactly like I putt although I place the ball a little further back in my stance if I use an iron (which is rare). When hitting a normal pitch, I have a slightly stronger grip in my right hand. This seems to improve my aim (or, rather, the ball goes more towards where I think I am aiming )Peter

Re: Weak grip on chips? A problem I am having with my very short pitches and my chips is distance control. I usually hit the ball past the hole and too far. Hit the short pitches and chips solidly but don't have enough feel. I think if I could feel my right hand more, I could control distance better. When taking a lesson about these short pitches or chips, the pro had me take a ball in my hand, look where I wanted the ball to end up, turn away from the target, then turn back and pitch. So in keeping with pitching the ball with right hand, I imagine a weak, right hand dominate, grip. Maybe I am thinking too much.
