| 80-100yd pitch shot hi all just wondering how other members set up to execute the 80-100 yard pitch shot. is your stance open or square? is your whole body aligned left of target or just your feet? is your weight evenly distributed on more prominent on the front foot? im struggling to find any consistency when playing this shot all other parts of short game are improving all the time! thanks in advance ![]() |

| Re: 80-100yd pitch shot It all depends on whether it is a full or partial shot. An 80 yard shot would be a full SW or a partial PW for me. For a full shot, I will use a normal stance, for a partial shot I would use a more open stance. Unfortunately, the only good advice I can give is to practice this shot with a variety of clubs and a variety of stances until you find something that works for you and that you can become confident with. If this turns out to be a 3/4 9 iron with an open stance or a punched LW with a closed stance or anything in between, then that is what you should use. -- Regards, Peter |

| Re: 80-100yd pitch shot From 100 yards, I use a gap wedge. From 80 yards, a little chokedown sandwedge. |

| Re: 80-100yd pitch shot hi try and use dave plez idea where you have 3 wedge swings, a 7 o-clock, 9 o-clock and a 11 o-clock and see how far you hit yout s/wedge, p/wedge and 7,8,and 9 irons with each club, he says to wright it down and stick it to the shaft just under your grip so you have the full swing with a p-wedge of say 110 yards and a 11 o-clock of say 90 yards and an 9 o-clock of say 75 yds and a 7 o-clock shot of 50 yards and do the same with each club, you now have a overlap of shots so you can have hight shots and low shots with diffrent clubs that go the same distance. it feels like you suddem=nly have a lot more clubs in your bag and if you need a 70yrd shot and know your 9 o-clock p-wedge goes 75 yards the go down grip and inch or two and you take off 5/10 yards. you know how far each club goes and it makes the game so much more easy thay just hitting and hoping. bill |

| Re: 80-100yd pitch shot for this distance I open my feet, hips and shoulders, place the ball in the middle, take the club back in line with my feet (open), hit the ball, pulling my right hand (i am left handed) high, it feels like I have hit the ball with my right hand. It sends the ball high and lands it soft, with some back spin if I use lob or sand wedges. the issue here is accuracy but also distance control, from 80- 100 yards out it is easy to have the accuracy but leave it 10 yards short of the pin, thats is where different clubs or back swing acrs play an important part. |

| Re: 80-100yd pitch shot How come you hit your driver and irons so far but hit your wedges so little distance? (lgskywalker) You said on one thread you hit your 9 iron 155 yards. So there is a 55 yard difference between your 9iron and pwedge? |

| Re: 80-100yd pitch shot Hi Slats, Is it appropriate to pitch a shot 80 - 100 yards? I would be inclined to use a full wedge shot or punch shot or knock down shot (if permissable). You need to know the distance on the fly for each of your club. In the assessment phase of your shot selection you need to ask yourself how far on the fly do I want the ball to go. Chose the club and ask yourself about the length of swing needed to meet that distance with that selected club. Eg my PW is 90m on the fly. If I want to pitch it 45m I'll only need to swing back to my hips and on the follow through finish at my hips. If it's a pitch shot, feet, hips and shoulders slightly open, club face at the target and about 60 percent of your weight on the front. Watch the club face hit the ball.

| Re: 80-100yd pitch shot The pitch shot is a shortened version of a full swing. OK, you can use different wedges, swing to different heights and choke down on the grip but try this drill to clarify the setup and swing: Take a pitching wedge, address the ball with a narrow slightly open stance then take a full back swing. Stop at the top then slowly start a normal downswing, stop when the club is half way down. Your hips should have rotated forward, your weight should be 70% onto your lead foot, your wrists should still be cocked, this is the position you should have at the top of a pitching back swing (no need to go to the top though). Now hit through the ball with good arm extension and body rotation ensuring the right knee has pushed through. End the follow through with the arms out in front towards the target and the wrists cocked. Swing at the same tempo for all yardages, just vary the amount of back swing for each distance and match the follow through to the back swing. Hope this helps.
