Boomerang Putting Aid

I live in the UK and am really interested in this product. I have a UK friend in Virginia USA at the moment and he will be returning to the UK soon.

Anyone know if he could buy one locally for me?

Re: Boomerang Putting Aid

have tried ebay, but the postage is more than the product ! Gonna order one direct from Boomerang and get it delivered to USA, then brought back to UK - thats the cheapest way i reckon.

I think it could help you learn how to putt up a hill into a cup and with alignment.
I dont see how it helps with distance control.

Your brain uses depth perception from your two eyes to figure out how far away something is, trying to translate a short uphill slope (a severe uphill slope in some cases) into a long slight slope is too hard and wont have good results (I think)

Better to use a sheet of cardboard with a "hole" sized slot cut out of it.
(Kinda like a squared off C shape)
Too hard and it will pass right through, just right and it will stay "in"

Re: Boomerang Putting Aid

take your point about distance- however, look on their website and the distance thing is clearly explained (took me 2 weeks to notice and work it out). good idea about the cardboard - how much for shipping ? LOL

Re: Boomerang Putting Aid

Shipping is cheap - it's the cost of the cardboard that will kill you.

FWIW, the Boom does get you working on distance.

It's a relative thing (although Alex's idea is good, Gree points out its main flaw).

However, you do get very good at judging the touch needed to bump the first ball out - judging that weight is a good skill to have, regardless of whether or not you need to go up the slope.

Hi Gree

Thanks for the observation. I would have to disagree just based on the feedback I keep getting and even the review by the GTO Administrator.

IMO, I give the brain more credit for being able to differentiate between uphill and downhill putts, but even if you were correct the Boom's going to make your uphill putting dead easy - wouldn't you agree?

Would you like to take our Skeptic's Challenge? I'll send you a Boom Pack, you try it for 30 days if if you still don't see the point just send it back and I'll Pay Pal you the cost of your shipping. Then you can tell everyone here what you thought of the product after you've given it a real good work out. Let me know if you're interested amgmoore@gmail.com

And thanks again for the opinion, the world would be very boring if everyone was the same

Cheers

Alex

PS For those that haven't read our FAQ the Boom's not about grooving certain distances, it's more about building a synchronized relationship between putter and ball that works over any distance.

Re: Boomerang Putting Aid

hi
i have had mine about a year and i do find it helps. hitting the second ball hard enough to knock out the first ball takes a bit of work too, i do think it helps your feel like guru said, i feel like i have better judgement now and think more about distance than line when putting on the course, i would use it for an hour or move 2/3 times a week in the winter. i do find you want to putt more with it and try and get more knock outs, its simple but fun too.

Yes and no.
Sure your brain can differentiate between uphill and downhill, I just think that the "hill" in the boomerang is a scenario that will very rarely happen on a course.
Its basically like putting up a tier in a green.
My personal preference when practicing is to putt on a flat, straight surface.
That way I know if Im missing because of a swing fault and not because of a mis read.

No worries, Im not trying to just knock it down, just pointing out something that I noticed.
As I said, I can definitely see how it can help groove alignment and your stroke to promote a straight putt.
I can also see how it would teach you (and indeed let you become addicted to) knocking the previous ball out (assuming you got one in ) I just dont see how you can bring what you have learned about hitting up a short incline to a 20 foot putt on the course.

I dunno, maybe if you spent some time working on the physics of it and had a scale on the side so users could equate say an angle of 30 Degrees with a 15 foot "flat" putt?
That way you know when you are on the course that your 15 footer is the same as that 30 degree one you have been practicing at home.

Maybe you already have done something like this and I just missed it.

Good luck with the product.

Re: Boomerang Putting Aid

hi
you can put the boomerang almost flat but the balls dont run out again, and the hight can be ajusted, i think its not so much about putting the ball in the cup but hitting it so it stays there, there is not a big lip in the boomerang so the pace of the ball has to be right, the same when hitting the second ball you hit it just a little harder,
you have to get the feel for the right pase for the ball to stay, other putting mats you can hit the ball hard and still hole it that where with this there more touch needed. one thing i do it hit the first ball from about 8 feet and the second from about 5 feet, then change, first ball 5 foot and the knock out ball from 8 foot, i try and change the distance to the hole. it makes it harder.
i realy feel that after using this for a few months i felt like i could not miss on the couse from 6 foot and i was shocked if i did miss as i got really good at putting, i do think changing to a broomhandled putter help too.
before i was not a good putter of the ball and 3 putted 2/3 times a round, now its rare if i 3 putt in a round.

Re: Boomerang Putting Aid

Hi Gree,

You're spot on, we are adding calibrations to the new model that relate the 6 hight settings to different distances (flat and inclined) on a variety of surface speeds. We're doing this because a lot of people do putt "by the numbers". But the alternative is, as I mentioned it before, synchronizing your stroke and then using the Boom to practice and groove this synchronization.

So what is synchronization? Imagine you're eyes are over the ball to target line and you can see the putter and ball working together all the way to the target just as if the putter was following the ball like a pacesetter.

It's a technique for people who don't have the time to practice but still want to make distance control something more than guesswork. If you're still unclear go see our short video clip at www.boomgolf.com/video.htm as a picture does say 1000 words. It's fantastic at turning a hit into a stroke but it all comes down to the length of the take away.

Even though you don't get how the Boom can help on distance control thanks for saying that you can see merit in it for alignment etc. I'd like to keep my offer open to you and if you ever decide to take it up just let me know amgmoore@gmail.com I do have an ulterior motive of course; getting the message across to a "skeptic" (even a nice one) sends a very powerful message to others and that's always worth taking a chance on.

All the best with your practice.

Cheers

Alex

Hi Bill,

I like that idea of varying the distances on every putt - I must try that.

Cheers and keep on Booming!

Re: Boomerang Putting Aid

I think the calibration will help a lot...
I'd take you up on the offer except I'm in Ireland so (as mentionned by a UK neighbour) shipping is rather expensive...

good luck with the product and I'll take a look at that video.

Re: Boomerang Putting Aid

Hi Gree

You're right, shipping across the pond is a tad expensive but if we sign a distributor for the UK and Ireland at the PGA Show in January as we're hoping I'll let you know if you like.

Cheers

Alex
