Re: shanking on small chips. Hi there, You clearly suffered with a type of yip, when the pressure was on. The best ever tip for chipping is to watch the spot where the ball was keeping your head still and don't look up until you hear the ball land, great for chips around the green. You can try this at home or anywhere it works everytime. The reason: if you keep your head still and don't look up at all the swing path must remain intact. Ian.

Re: shanking on small chips. Uhh maybe you should take up bowling...lol...just kidding, more then like, and it very easy to do, you got set up with the weight back on the heels, I say easy to do, because with chips you tend to setup real close to the ball. So when you swing the club back even though it is not a big swing, it is enough that you automatically re center the weight, which moved you forwards towards the ball, now your hitting the hosel. doesn't take much...so setup on those chip shots, lean into them puppies.

Re: shanking on small chips. Thanks I will give them two a go.Well Gonavy if you mean Lawn Bowling ,yes I am quite a good bowler.I find its a little like putting its a visual judgement on distance etc. Yes Ian the dreaded yips, I suffer the same at putting.Yet on the tee I am a first sighter, put the ball down and hit it, usually down the middle.Maybe I try that with the putting and chipping.
