Mastering the 9i / PW knockdown

Does anyone here have any drills to mastering the dreaded 9i knockdown? You know, the one that bounces once and sticks!!! It's a scary shot when you're 60 yards away and you know you have to crush it to get it to stop quick.

Here's what I do:

- feet closer together
- ball a little back in stance
- hands forward
- 1/2 or 3/4 backswing
- swing down on the ball with a short follow through.

Now why doesn't it work??? The only times it does work is when I'm NOT trying to. Gotta love this game.

Any help appreciated.

Re: Mastering the 9i / PW knockdown

Rolling the right hand over... Now that's something I shouldn't have any trouble with since I do with all my clubs. It helps square the club face at impact and promotes a draw. I really didn't think that this was something to do for the knockdown shot. My guess was that you had to be as "handsy free" as humanly possible.

Another thing I forgot to mention is I use hard cover balls. I guess I'll have to switch to softer balls in order to get the effect I want.

Thanks Golfone, I'll practice this one 'till my hands go numb.
