It messed with my head so I had to go back to just visualizing a line and adjusting my set up to the ball until it felt right. Anyone else have that problem? How are you lining up your putts.
I agree. The line on a golf ball is very difficult to line up perfectly. The ball is really too small to use it as an aiming tool. I pick a mark or spot in the grass.

When you actually strike the ball, are you focusing on the spot or on the ball?

Re: That "Putting Line Up Mark" on the ball

Hey

I think if you're not going to use a line on the ball to line the putter up with then maybe it should be on the bottom of the ball at least to see if was struck square as it rolls.(end over end square-squirrly wobbly line not square).I really don't see why one wouldn't use a line on the ball to pick the desired line and match it up with the notch or line on the putter.

Just my opinion

Good luck,

Re: That "Putting Line Up Mark" on the ball

A little trick/understanding/revelation that I had came to me one day when I remembered a basketball shooting lesson I was given.

The physics behind speed and trajectory of a ball through the air follows a parabolic path. If you are shoot'n hoops you will make more shots if you put a higher (parabolic path) arc on the ball than if you attempt to take a more direct shot with more velocity. Same thing happens on the golfing green.

Hmmm.... Without getting too technical here.... I picture breaking putts as arc's where I want the arc to approach the hole with minimal speed. I picture the hole as a clock and I say to myself--this break looks like the ball will need to come in from 4 0'clock or 3 0'clock by picturing where I would need stand and shoot a straight shot into the hole down the hill.

A line on the ball would mess up my image of the shot...I think I would be tempted to shoot for the apex of the arc image rather than thinking speed and arc path.... all my putts would come up short of the hole and role by.

Hey

Just curious -if you see the putt breaking from 4 o'clock to 3 o'clock(which would be right to left I'm guessing) why not line the ball up to 4 o'clock with the same stroke?

if it is straight in from 3 shoot'n for four would require more velocity to cut the break or flatten the trajectory. Possible but more difficult to make???

I got one of those Check-Go ball balancers a couple of seasons ago. The main problem I had was that the marker pen was not as permanent as I would like. Also it made a mess of the balls after I marked them and put them in their sleeve box. Eventually I had grey balls and marks everywhere. I did stop using it after several weeks. Prior to the Check-Go I averaged about 28 to 30 putts per round. My putting went up to 35 to 38 putts per round. I changed putters three or four times thinking it might be the putter. The results were the same. So I decided to go back to my putting prior to the Check-Go with no line on the ball. My putting dropped back down to 28 putts per round rather quickly. I think I am just a feel putter and the use of a mechanical means of using a line just does not work for me.
