| Approximating true aim line from visual break in putting Students of Dave Pelz learn how to determine the true aim point from the visual break for their putts by the procedure (see attached figure):
There is an alternate procedure for determining the aim line that’s done at the visual break location on the ball track. This is illustrated in attached figure. For approximating an aim point for true aim line: · Visualize an optimum ball track passing through the hole · Estimate the visual break occurring at 2/3 distance to hole · Multiply it by 2. The resulting aim line is not quite as accurate as determine by Pelz's procedure, but I believe the procedure is simpler. Last edited by Shorty; 03-20-2007 at 06:59 PM. Reason: Simplify |

| Re: Approximating true aim line from visual break in putting Below is a suggested procedure to get aligned with the aim line using a pencil to point to the aim point that’s double the visual break magnitude. It’s based on the fact that people are good at visually bisecting a line segment. The attached figure shows this condition for a right to left break. An alignment procedure would be 1) Line up aside the ball in line with the ball-hole line. 2) Bend from the waist to where, if with club, your eyes are directly over the ball. 3) Estimate the visual break by holding the pencil at arms length with the image of the visual break distance projecting to one half the distance between the end of the pencil and the thumb nail. 4) While holding pencil at arms length, line up in line with the modified aim line direction that's identified in step 3. Your are now ready to putt the ball using pure-in-line-strokes (pils) which eliminates subconscious compensations. Last edited by Shorty; 03-12-2007 at 04:03 PM. |
