In order to help maintain and develop GTO I am constantly looking for income streams that can help. I have been advised that the GoogleAds banner will help us do this, whilst at the same time not ruining the look and feel of the site.

I will not allow ads to be plastered all over GTO now or at any time in the future... rest assured that will not happen as I know how annoying that can be.

Your understanding is much appreciated...

Plus... if any of you out there who are experts in the arena of generating income from a website I would love to hear your thoughts and advice in order to help me grow this community... happy golfing

Google Ads should work nicely here. A friend of mine runs a forum for a college team and the Google Ads bring enough income to pay for hosting needs.

Setting up a paypal account that will allow you to take donations without a lot of overhead cost would also be a solution. You could create new categories for users that donate so the ones that support the site financially can be recognized for it.

Finally, a small store to sell small golf accessories that are branded would be nice. Something like those ball mark/repair tools that act like a switchblade, visors, hats, club head covers, and towels would be a few items that wouldn't have a large inventory cost to them. Problem would be shipping since this is a truly world wide site.

Gandalf ... I know that Amazon has a web service that can suggest golf books based on page content. It might be an idea.

I think it's only fair that you seek ways of generating income, but just please, PLEASE keep it to static images - no flash - no animations - no movies.

Intrusive ads are really destructive to discussion forums.

I have had a few requests asking what google adds does for GTO...

Basically the more clicks on the adverts that GTO gets the more we make from them. All money generated from the google ads is put back into GTO to help with maintenance and development costs of the site.

So are you saying that we should click them more ... ?
