a little help

hello to all, 1st time poster...I am looking for some help from others on alternative ways to manage an after work golf league. Now we do it as teams with 4 ea. against the other team. one no show is a forfeit and and automatic loss of possible 2 bonus pts. for low gross/team/net. 10 possible each night. Well so many players are no shows week after week it makes it very difficult for these teams to compete for the championship. Apathy abounds, most don't even pay the $10.00 league fee that goes for prizes. Our current administrator is fed up and is looking for someone else to run things. I would if I could glean an idea or two on different formats to follow that would maybe be more individualistic in nature. Ladder challenge system or?? I'm sure there are other ways to organize and hopefully someone will suggest some plausible ways to satisfy the core of hardcore "gotta have it" golfers we do have that do show up week after week. I'm sure most on here would fit into the hardcore golfers. I welcome any and all suggestions, thanks.

Re: a little help

Job one of any league is to get the money upfront.

I run a basketball league here and it's simple - you want a spot on a roster, you pay up front. That takes care of the straggler fee.

The issue as I see it is that it's only $10 - peanuts, really. Want more participation? Increase the fees.

Perhaps you still need some individual prizes, or different gimmicks - CTP, LD, skins, that kind of thing - more opportunity to win points/money.

When you say there are no-shows, is it entire teams or just one player?

If it's single players, they should automatically score double bogies; gross and net; let their teammates pressure them into playing.

If it's entire teams, the first one results in a point loss equal to what the last place team earned (ie last earns 6 points, the absent team loses 6 from their total). The second time a team no shows, they're out of the league, thank you for your money, see you next year. Obviously you can use judiciary guidance (a team of brothers or cousins lose a family member, you can't really strike them).

Between steeper prices and steeper penalties, only those that want to play will show.

A new highlight: Golfing the home course on Christmas Day.

I say it too often: If it's golf club shaped, you can play with it.

For the record, I'm a club doctor, not a swing doctor.
