Greetings from Columbus, Ohio Greetings from the home town of Jack Nicklaus! That is of course the only thing I have in common with Jack. Well maybe we both are shaped about the same. He is 65 and I am 60.....ok thats it! I have been playing golf about 25 years and still hanging around boggey scores, turning in a sub 90 score a few times a year. I keep working at it and just when I think I've found it, it goes away Looking forward to learning some good stuff here at this site.Best wishes, Mike

Re: Greetings from Columbus, Ohio Hi MJR, I just read your post and it caught my eye because I live in Delaware, about 20 miles north of you. We have a lot in common. I am 57, have played for 30 years but only seriously for about 2-3 years and maybe get a sub 90 round 1 or 2 times a year. I am just wondering what courses you play in the central Ohio area? What are your favorites. I like to play some of the courses north of columbus because they are generally cheaper. Some of my favorites are Kingsmill, Whetstone, TableRock. Have you played them? Since I live in Delaware, I have a membership at Hidden Valley. I play there almost everyday. Have you heard of it? It is a 9 hole executive course. Of the nine holes, 8 are par 3's with one par 4. I just registered on this site today myself and it was a surprise to see someone so close to me. Take care, Chessbum...

Re: Greetings from Columbus, Ohio Hi Chessbum! Thanks for the response. I live across the street from Thornapple Contry Club on the far West end of the Columbus. I play a lot of my golf there but play every couple weeks at Raymond Memorial with a group of 8. Kingsmill was one of the courses I started on back in the late 60s. I hung up the clubs for a long time after that because I couldn't afford to play when we started having kids. I lived in Marion back then when I got out of the Army. Worked at WMRN as an announcer/DJ. Then, after a year, moved back to Columbus and worked in radio at WNCI for a few years. They were located up at Powell and Rt 23 then. So I am somewhat familiar with that area. I play at Indian Springs, Ben Curtis' home course in Ostrander, Deer Creek, Mentle Memorial is close and I go there too. I like the courses out of town. Less people during the week and sometimes less costly. I am semi-retired so most of my playing is done during the week. I also like Darby Creek in Marysville area, and St. Albans way out East. Mike

Re: Greetings from Columbus, Ohio Hi again, MJR, Boy, it is a small world. I might have mentioned that my age is 57, so we are about the same age. The really funny thing is that I grew up in Marion. I lived there from the time I was born until I was about 15 years old. I went to elementary and jr. high there in Marion but after jr. high our family moved to Columbus. I certainly remember WMRN. I have played quite a bit at Raymond but not this year. I subbed for a league the past two years on that course. What time period were you in Marion? Chessbum...

Re: Greetings from Columbus, Ohio It was 1967-68 and I worked mostly in the afternoon evening. I was the "afternoon drive time personality". Worked with Ken Charles and Charlie Evers. Bob Miller was the sports news guy and Madge and Marge were there too. It was a good start for me but after working radio in Columbus for a couple years, I decided to go into law enforcement. I retired from that in 95 after 25 years and now work P/T as needed doing investigative work for a large security provider. I pretty much pick and choose what I do and manage my hours around golf. I don't know how long its going to last but so far I been doing it for 9 years. We should get together and play a round of golf sometime. My email address is mjr451@hotmail.com
