| New Member Hi everyone I am new to the Golf Tuition Online forum and found the site looking for help with the "shanks". I was glad to hear it is normally a problem found with lower handicappers. My game has really come around in the last year as I have been playing for about 7 years. I have read through all the posts about the shanks and have some ideas of what is causing it for me. Earlier I could never get my wood play and iron play to be good at the same time. I finally cured the slice I had off the tee box as I was coming "over the top". I learned the proper swing path and can now draw the ball with the driver and 3 wood. For a couple of months I was breaking 80 on shorter courses. Then the dreaded shanks showed up and I felt as if I had just picked up the clubs for the first time. The last time I played with the guys I shanked 6 shots on the front nine and shot a 46. I slowed everything down and got myself mentally back in the game to recover with a 39 on the back nine with 2 birdies. I enjoy the game immensely and look forward to reading and sharing the game with others in this forum. Tim |

| Re: New Member Welcome Tim, I will tell you a secret for instantly curing the shanks. Keep your weight on your heels throughout the swing. Just do this until the shanks stop and you will be cured. Shanking usually comes from getting the weight too much on the toes. |

| Re: New Member Chad, Thanks for the advice and I will definitely try it.. I have been trying to stand a little taller (keeping my spine straighter) and I felt more weight on the balls of my feet. I also failed to mention that I had the ball below my feet most of the time when I shanked it. Again thanks for the advice and welcome to the forum. Tim |
