hi rootcorn
sorry to say this but you have got to learn to chip properly
chipping is one of the feel shots and takes regular practise to master
if its any consolation i stunk at chipping too but i learnt to set up properly for the shot and now its one of my strong points
why is your chipping awful?

Re: losing too many shots around the green

hi
go for the low running shot and not the hight cut shot, the low running shot is just like a long putt and most high handicapers can play this shot over and over and get it to 3/4 feet of the hole. use 7,8,9,wedge and find out how far each runs for you, will save you lots of shot round the green. also look at gregs chipping lessons as he has a lot of tips there. one other thing, there always dave plez short game bible the packed with drills to do.
hope this helps
bill

Re: losing too many shots around the green

I've found that the easiest way to chip is to use a hybrid and go about it as if it was a putt. Easy peasy

Re: losing too many shots around the green

find a place where you can stay (chip and putting range) all day long practicing with the clubs #9 #8 #7 #6 pw and sw open face and open stance same distance, all the clubs above chip, chip and run, change distance keep going...in one week you will feel the diference.( im not going too tecnical, basic, basic, basic)hope this can cut a few srtokes of you game like does for me ...cheers

Re: losing too many shots around the green

Hi

This may sound a little simplistic and often repeated but it is usually the case.

KEEP YOUR HEAD DOWN, if you don't believe me try chipping a few balls looking at the spot where the ball was until you hear it land, you will be suprised, this is providing you have your technic in order.

If I get a little shaky then I usually do this, a couple of practice swings at the side of the ball then move straight in a chip without thinking or resting the club for a split second.

Good Luck

Ian.
