New member seeking short game help

Hi all

I am playing golf after a five year layoff. Handicap averaged around 18-20, but am currently struggling to break 100. Generally OK tee to 100 metres out, then oh dear. Constantly hitting the ground before the ball, particularly chipping, have completely lost confidence. Last Sat had an airshot chipping, hit the ground 4 inches before the ball and the club bounced over the top of it!

Help please

Re: New member seeking short game help

Hi Russell,

I can only assume you have all the set up basics correct, hands slightly ahead of the ball etc..........

Sounds to me like you have some tention and/or excessive movement during the swing......

Two things you need to be relaxed, which I know is difficult if you have been duffing a few but you must try to have a tention free grip, Secondly and most important you must WATCH the ball being hit, keep you head looking at the spot where the ball was until you hear the ball land.......

Follow these two drills and even if you have a few poor fundimentals it should still work ok........................seek our some pictures to follow for a good set-up.

Hope this helps

Ian.

Re: New member seeking short game help

Hi Russell
Make sure:
  • the ball is placed in the middle (to the back) of ur stance
  • the left arm and the club are in a straight line, making a triangle with the right arm, so the hands are ahead of the clubhead
  • swing smoothly back, keeping the arms and clubhead in that position, keeping ur eyes focused on the "writing" on the ball
  • hit the ball with acceleration, and ensure the hands keep ahead of the clubhead right thru the shot!
Too much info? Hope not and hope it helps ur short game!
