had same problem (dont know what u mean By blocking the ball)took me 4 years and quite a few drivers at some expence. Then I bought a second hand driver that is ofset Titleist titanium983K not any wear near as bad.
Then a Friend I was playing with one day told me to try raising my left shoulder as u r supposed to but also push it forward more square to line of target bingo cant get it any straiter still slice it now and again but thats when I try to force the ball hope this helps a little it helped me a lot.I now average 90 but have hit 82.

So, by "blocking" it, you mean that you're not slicing it out there with a big curving shot, but hitting it STRAIGHT out to the right? (That's what I picture as a "blocked" shot.) If so, then it sounds like you're not "releasing" your hands, or letting you right hand & forearm roll over your left at impact.

Sounds like you're on a decent path into the ball, but that the clubface is still hanging open at impact. (If you were cutting across the ball, like an exagerated sidespin shot in tennis, then I'd expect the ball to slice or curve wickedly.) Sounds like your wrists are still hinged a little, and you need to close up the clubface.

I've heard the "releasing" of the wrist described like the motion of the hands when tossing a frisbee. Don't snap them quite like that, but make sure that they are turning to close the clubface.

That's my amateurish take on it. Good luck!

Re: please help

Hi Robbo,

Reading your post, and thinking about your problem, I would suggest you are probably coming into the ball hands first from the top of the backswing. Ideally, the first move on the downswing is a bump of the left hip, and a drop of the left shoulder. If you get this sequence correct, it follows that the hands attack the ball on a downward movement which makes the club come into the ball square and on the correct plane. The hands should always be in front of the clubhead. If not, the end result will be that the clubface will open and the ball will go in the direction that you spoke about, to the right. Hope this helps.
Robert
