So, by "blocking" it, you mean that you're not slicing it out there with a big curving shot, but hitting it STRAIGHT out to the right? (That's what I picture as a "blocked" shot.) If so, then it sounds like you're not "releasing" your hands, or letting you right hand & forearm roll over your left at impact.
Sounds like you're on a decent path into the ball, but that the clubface is still hanging open at impact. (If you were cutting across the ball, like an exagerated sidespin shot in tennis, then I'd expect the ball to slice or curve wickedly.) Sounds like your wrists are still hinged a little, and you need to close up the clubface.
I've heard the "releasing" of the wrist described like the motion of the hands when tossing a frisbee. Don't snap them quite like that, but make sure that they are turning to close the clubface.
