New and in seek of help

Hey guys! I ran into this forum while looking for tips on Driving. I'm kind of new to the game and I go to the range a lot and try to get out on the course as much as I can but I just can't get rid of my slice. At the driving range I'll hit about 30% straight and nice, 40% far but slice to the right and the rest will just scare the hell out of the person next to me because it hits the dividers.

I am actually good at putting I think and fairly good with irons but my drivers are not working for me. When I get up to the tee (I think a lot has to do with psychological pressure) on the course I rarely ever hit a nice tee shot or even 3/5 wood shot. I'm fairly big (6'4, 260lbs) but I dont know how much that has to do with it - if I need longer clubs or what? Currently I have about 8 year old Dunlops that I bought as a set for like $250 so they're not top of the line by any means necessary.

Are there any good instructional sites, videos, etc that anyone knows of that would help me get a better idea as to what a good stance, grip, foot position, etc. is? I also really dont know how much it helps to go to the driving range because it seems that when you get on a course it's completely different, you guys think the same? Do you think that a nice driver would help matters? Some people tell me that it really doesn't have anything to do with the driver but I don't know how much I believe that. I can spend a couple hundred dollars on a nice driver on ebay if it means that it will help my game so if you have any advice on what a good driver to start out with would be, any insight would be appreciated. PS: The clubs I was looking at on ebay were either:

- Taylormade r7
- Nike SUMO2
- Callaway Big Bertha (any of the models)

If you are new to the game, it has nothing to do with the driver, and a million squareheaded canons won't help you.

Spend a couple of hundred at your local teaching pro. That is sure to help your game more in the long run than buying some hyped Driver.

Remember - a lot of golfers actually have the distance needed to reach an average par 5 green in 3 shots using nothing longer than a 5 iron.

Much better to get the swing basics right than to break out the big dog and just pound away endlessly at the range, trying to hit that notorious 300yd drive.

If your planning on buying a new driver/new clubs, head down to your closest golf store and test them out while having someone help you choose. Make sure that you dont just buy the clubs that you want but the ones you feel the most comfortable with and once your game gets better you can spoil yourself alittle and upgrade. As for now, just start taking some lessons to get the basics of the game down pact.
